I turned and glanced behind me, where my father stood, thinking maybe it was a joke- hoping it was a joke.

For the first few hours stories were confused enough that I could imagine maybe none of them were true, but they finally settle into one brief, brutal narritive:

Love is a bitch. It's not as simple as,

What is love? Baby don't hurt me.

What a Goddamned terrible, beautiful vision of things.

Each of us, I suppose needs his illusions. Life after death. A maker of planets. A woman to love, a man to hate. Something sacred. But what a waste.

A huge waste on something that seems to never work out. Something that really doesn't seem to make sense to most. Something that most people to chase their whole life only to find themselves in the midst of catastrophic failure and dissapointment.

His love was too much for him, he felt paralyzed, he wanted to sleep inside her lungs and breathe her blood and be smoldered.

I'll picture [his] face, his grief, and I'll think, You dumb cooze. Because she wasn't listening.

She will never listen. She is an imaginary figment. She will never understand how you feel, because she doesn't want you back. And as you get older you'll say:

What happened, and what might have happened?

I prefer not to sleep and not to dream then to sleep and see the pictures in my head.

Not to see those horrifying images of families being ripped apart by her, and her destroying things that were supposed to be a bucket of dreams and a half.

Words too, have genuine substance- mass and weight and specific gravity.

So her absence from his life was empty. So he invited her back in.

Only now that [she] was here again [he] fully realized how much [her] absence had cost them.

She is love. She is evil and manipulative and crazy and emotional and overwhelming and mysterious. But that's all good. You need everything involved with love to actually feel love. Try it. The water is fine.

I actually had a lot of fun making this Mash-Up. It felt like I really had creative freedom and that I created something out of many things. I really liked the idea of trying to understand the other sides of love. The sides of love that many don't associate with love. My favorite quote would just be 'What is love? Baby don't hurt me,' because I love the song. I also really liked the way I was able to weave together my own thoughts and the actual quotes. Mash-ups are really fun to make, and super creative. I had to make sure I could make this all make sense. Mash-ups are legit.
